Ori means “folding” and kami means “paper”. Originally I got into folding paper during endless flights; people gave me very strange looks, however its immensely satisfying to just fold paper. Mainly I used to like folding cherry blossoms over and over, with the cliché cranes and boxes also featuring.
More recently I have started to fold some geometric shapes using a brilliant book by Paul Jackson as a guide. Complete Pleats is a super introduction to a variety of possibilities. Nothing beats just starting to fold and getting a feel for it. Some of the geometric forms are quite tricky to get your eyes around. It is still early days for me but here is two 15x15cm sheets of 90 gsm paper folded into a zig-zag pattern
Going geometric
Pushing out into geometric forms has proved to be really good fun. While Peter Jackson’s Complete Pleats was a good introduction, Folding Techniques for Designers offered more possibilities and depth, leading me to explore.
