Since I was a child I have been curious about the world around me. Developing an interest in craft took longer. Printing is very structured and suited to good process control, while composition allows the mind to run free. This mix floats my boat and is why the Plimsoll Press came to be.
I am very lucky to have been taught by many Irish printers, of both the letterpress and commercial orientation. Thus far I have printed in The National Print Museum and Distillery Press, but hope in time to set up my own press. I focus mainly on stationery, with occasional poster projects.
Aside from printing, I enjoy making stationery and Mokuhanga. Handmade paper is also of interest, but having laid a few sheets in Griffen Mill, perhaps a trade left to research for now.
I love tinkering in general; Horology, bikes (vintage Cannondale’s), wood, weaving willow, etcetera.
For those who have ever looked at the side of a large vessel, the Plimsoll Line will be familiar; it is the load limit for that vessel in a given water density. A good reminder to care for oneself, and not overload. Another reason the Plimsoll Press exists.
